The Great Exasperation

After 30 years of Great Moderation, a combination of steady growth and moderate inflation, we are now experiencing what FT columnist Katie Martin called in an article over the weekend the “Great Exasperation”. In this new era of instability, red hot inflation numbers combined to worrying signs on an economic slowdown create instability in financial markets. Our approach remains unchanged: we stay defensive but continue seize opportunities in undervalued quality businesses as investment opportunities arise with “babies thrown out with the bath water.” This is not the time for long term investors to fall asleep on the wheel.
